17th of May
Early start from Richards Bay, to see a game reserve (naturreservat) with the big five. We saw all of them but the lion and lepoard.
Hot day and bad roads, but lots of fun.
Got to Eshowe at 17:00 and met our host families: Graham Feargus
Had a nice dinner at Grahams and then went out to go to the local sports club, in the middle of the sugar beats field. Tried a new drink with called Cain. Met a film production crew that were making a comercial movie for Guinness. |
18th of May
Visiting a grapefrut farm and looked at the zulu people picking the fruit. Having a good time togther with them taking pictures.
Breakfast at Grahams house.
Visiting two of the local Rotary projects, a skillcenter and an orphanage.
Had a amazing walk with a local Zulu guy called Victor. He took us to the places that we wouldn't seen otherwise, like a herbs shop. The tried to sell the boys some viagra drink that was neon green.
Some of us tried the traditional Zulu beer that tasted yeast.
Emma and Masha got dresed up in traditional zulu dresses. Rickard was offerd a job as a TV repairant, but turn it down cause he only works with his own toolkit.
In the evening we had a presentation at the local Rotary club. The said it was the best presentation they ever had. Got a lot of interesting questions like "Why does Sweden have the highest suicied rate in the the world". |
19th of May
Visiting a hopital at the Eshowe. About 60% of the patient had Aids.
Visiting a grapefrut farm, that emploeed 1300 persons.
Off to Shakaland, a tourist attraction where you could experience the Zulu culture. Emma and Martin danced with Zulu people in a hut.
After lunch we started our journey back to Durban. When it was about 15 km left we hit a thunder storm with a lot of hail. Some truck in front of us got where in an accident and we got stuck for about 2.5 h.

20th May
In the morning we when to the Victorian streeet market, thet is an african market with a lot of souverniers.
Visting a Hare krishna tempel and had lunch at Govindas. (Rickard had three plates - Martin a half)
Party with the host families. Got home at 03:00 up at 07:00. |
21th of May
Breakfast meeting with Durban Rotaractors at Sun Coast (a big casino that is coloured beatiful). |
22th of May
Arrived at Hillcrest. Got a tour of all the Rotary projects. Met a lot of kids and also a voulontair from Norway.
Went to a local market where Martin got a haircut for 60 kr.
Had a barbaque with a lot of local Rotarians. |
23th of May
Breakfast meeting with Hillcrest Rotary. Had a presentation.
Got a guided tour of a privat high school for boys only. While walking we stopped counting the frase"God moring, Sir" at 200.
Visit at a alternative medicin clinic. Emma got examed by a doctor there which told her what her allergies was by measuring the energy field with a electronic device connected to a computer.
Dinner with the host families. Martin and Slava tried a dry sauna that got its heat with infra red light. Nice to have a TV in the sauna.
